AI-Powered Predictive Middle-Mile Tracking Now on the Tracking Page | 2026-09-18

Predictive middle-mile tracking is now available on eligible XPO and Forward Air shipments, so you can see the likely remaining terminal path, expected position, and when the carrier delivery date no longer looks feasible.

Carrier scan updates on national LTL can lag hours behind actual movement. On eligible in-transit XPO and Forward Air shipments, the tracking page now adds Mothership's estimate of the remaining terminal-to-terminal path on top of the carrier's verified scans.

This is Mothership's estimate of how freight moves between terminals. It is not live GPS, and it is not a delivery guarantee. Pickup and last-mile delivery are not predicted.

Predicted route on the map
On eligible shipments, the map now shows a predicted path from the last carrier-verified terminal toward delivery.

  • Black line and black pins: the route the carrier has already confirmed (verified terminals)
  • Solid darker blue line: the predicted portion that should already be complete, based on typical timing
  • Dashed lighter blue line: the remaining predicted path
  • Blue truck marker: the current expected position along that path (not a live GPS ping)
  • Blue pins: terminals Mothership expects the freight to pass through next

Hover a pin for the stop name and timestamp. Use the map legend in the corner to tell verified carrier updates apart from the Mothership estimate.

If you only see the black route, this shipment does not have a predicted path right now. Carrier scans and the activity log still work as usual. You do not need to wait for a prediction to appear.

At-risk delivery banner
If the remaining terminals, travel time, and typical handling time no longer fit the carrier's estimated delivery day, the tracking page shows a yellow banner: "Mothership expects this to arrive late."

That banner includes:

  • Earliest arrival: the earliest delivery day Mothership currently thinks is realistic
  • Last carrier estimate: the delivery date the carrier currently shows
  • A short explanation of why the shipment looks at risk (for example, last seen too far from the destination to make the carrier date)

This is a Mothership estimate. It is not a delay notice from the carrier, and it does not change the carrier's own estimate. The carrier date can still look on time while the banner is showing.

What did not change

  • The activity log still shows actual carrier scans only, not predicted terminal arrivals
  • Pickup, out for delivery, and delivered views are unchanged
  • Other carriers (including TForce) do not show a predicted route yet
  • No setup or extra inputs are required

We're adding more carriers over time. Predictions will only ever cover the middle mile: after the first terminal, before last-mile delivery.

Impact

These updates provide:

  • A clearer view of where freight is likely headed between carrier scans
  • An expected position along the remaining terminal path
  • Earlier notice when the carrier delivery date no longer looks feasible
  • Unchanged tracking when a prediction is not available

What to do next

Open any in-transit XPO or Forward Air shipment from Track in the dashboard. When a prediction is available, it appears on the map automatically.
