Notify before delivery now available on LTL | 2026-10-23

Ask the carrier to contact your receiver before delivery, so someone is ready when the freight arrives.

You can now select Notify before delivery when you quote LTL shipments. The carrier contacts the receiver before delivering, usually the day before or the day of delivery, by phone, email or portal.

What changed

Notify before delivery on LTL

  • Select Notify before delivery on LTL shipments.
  • Available with ABF, Central Transport, Custom Companies, Daylight, Forward Air, Frontline, Old Dominion, Roadrunner, Saia, Southeastern, TForce and XPO.
  • How and when the carrier reaches out varies by carrier.
  • Delivery only. Not available on pickups or on Mothership Carrier Network (local) shipments.

No double charges

  • Many carriers already contact the receiver on residential, limited access or appointment deliveries. For those carriers, we leave the separate notification charge out of your quote.
  • Notify before delivery still prints on the BOL, so the carrier knows to make contact.

Why this matters

Deliveries fail when no one is there to receive them. Notify before delivery gives your receiver a heads-up so someone is ready, without booking a set appointment.

How it works

  • Go to Ship → Single Shipments.
  • Select Notify before delivery when you enter your shipment details.
  • Add a working phone number and email for the delivery contact.
  • Pick a rate and book.

What you need to do

  • Make sure the delivery contact has a working phone number and email. If the carrier can't reach the receiver, it may hold the freight, which can delay delivery and add storage charges.
  • Notify before delivery doesn't set a delivery day or time. If the receiver needs one, book Delivery appointment instead.
  • Notes like "call 30 minutes prior" are best effort, and not every carrier follows them.
  • Contact your account team if you have questions about whether a specific shipment qualifies.
