Choosing the Right Coverage for Your Shipment

When booking a shipment with Mothership, you have the option to purchase FreightProtect™ coverage for enhanced protection and faster claims resolution. You can also choose to rely on standard carrier-provided coverage. Here's how the two options compare so you can choose what’s best for your cargo.

FreightProtect™ Coverage (Optional Add-On)

  • Up to 100% reimbursement of the declared value of your freight

  • Coverage available up to $250,000 for LTL and $2,000,000 for FTL

  • Claims are processed quickly, with an average payout time of 10 days

  • $101 minimum coverage for both LTL & FTL

  • $100 deductible per claim

  • Freight costs are eligible for reimbursement

  • Re-shipping costs are not typically included

  • Claims must be submitted via dashboard.mothership.com/claims

    • Note: If the purchaser is not the freight owner, a written authorization from the freight owner must be provided when filing a claim

  • Priced at $0.1365 per $100 of declared value (e.g., $13.65 to insure $10,000 in goods)

Carrier-Provided Coverage (Default if no FreightProtect is purchased)

  • Maximum reimbursement is typically limited to $10,000 for new goods and $1,500 for used goods

  • Payout is based on freight class and density, not declared value

  • Reimbursement of shipping fees is not guaranteed and is at the carrier’s discretion

  • Claims typically take longer to resolve, with an average of 40 days

  • Coverage is provided directly by the motor carrier

Need help deciding which option is right for you? If your shipment is high-value or time-sensitive, FreightProtect™ offers faster claims resolution, higher limits, and peace of mind.
