What is a detention fee?

A truck waiting fee is charged by the hour when a driver is forced to wait at the pick-up or delivery location for reasons beyond the driver's control.

  • The driver is picking up or delivering at a congested port or warehouse.

  • The freight is not ready.

  • No one is available to receive the driver for pickup or delivery.

  • More freight is given than listed on BOL and the driver must wait for freight to be reorganized and consolidated in order to fit.

  • The pick-up or delivery address is wrong.
