What is volume pricing?
Volume shipping quotes are used when LTL shipments fall outside the normal less-than-truckload parameters, but are not large enough for a full truckload. Volume shipment rates are spot market rates quoted at the time of shipment.
When does volume pricing occur?
Volume pricing occurs when more than six pallets are tendered to the same LTL carrier, going to the same destination, within the same time frame.
How to avoid getting charged with volume pricing.
The best way to avoid volume pricing is to book a dedicated shipment.
Alternatively, you can book the shipments on different service levels to ensure you get different carriers.
For example, if there are 12 pallets and you don't want to choose the dedicated option, book two separate six-pallet shipments on different service levels. You could book one of the six pallet shipments at the lowest price option and the other at the best value option, so you are getting two separate carriers. The pallets will not be combined for volume pricing as they are with two different carriers.
Please note: You must ensure the shipments are tendered and allocated to two separate carriers. Even though you booked the two shipments correctly in our dashboard, volume pricing will still occur if the pallets get tendered to the same carrier.
