What are the length limits for extended or oversized freight?

Maximum piece length is 144 inches on the Mothership Carrier Network (local) and on most National LTL Partner Carriers. Select National LTL Partner Carriers accept pieces up to 26 ft 8 in. Longer pieces need National FTL or special handling. Details below.

Can I ship extended-length freight on Mothership's Carrier Network?

Yes. Mothership supports extended-length freight up to 144 inches in length or width (maximum dimensions: 144" x 94" x 94") on our direct network for dock-to-dock shipments that do not require a liftgate.

Can I ship extended-length freight on National LTL Partner Carriers?

Yes. Select National LTL Partner Carriers accept pieces longer than 12 ft (144 in): XPO up to 26 ft 8 in, ABF up to 26 ft, TForce up to 20 ft and Forward Air up to 20 ft. Other National LTL Partner Carriers accept pieces up to 12 ft.

Note: Long pieces can take up more space in the truck than their weight or pallet count suggests. If your freight uses a large share of the trailer, carriers may charge for the linear feet it takes up, up to the cost of the full truck. These charges can show up as a rebill after pickup, so make sure to enter exact dimensions for every piece.

Which carriers support extended-length freight shipments with Mothership?

Mothership Carrier Network and all eligible National LTL Partner Carriers will return a rate at quoting.

Are there any restrictions on using liftgates for extended-length shipments?

Yes. Liftgates are unavailable for shipments for extended-length freight shipments exceeding maximum liftgate limits. This restriction is due to the physical limitations and safety considerations associated with handling oversized items.
